Peyton Manning

How did this guy win the NFL MVP award? He's a good player but he is NOT the reason this team is successful. In fact, during their losses he was on the field the entire time. When they were sucking early in the season, he was running the show. Jeff Saturday and the supporting cast he has make this a complete unit. The Colts reeled off an impressive 9 wins in a row, but shouldn't this award go to someone who's individual effort was an example? Really, if it's going to be team based, the Titans have to be the biggest surprise in the history of football. If it is going to go to an individual, there are two rookies that blew it up this year all by themselves for sure. This seems similar to Favre, sucks, making the Pro Bowl.

If you have a crush on Peyton, why don't you just tell him. By the way, who in your opinion should have won the MVP award. Those in the running were Peyton, Chad Pennington, Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson, James Harrison, Phillip Rivers, Chris Johnson, and Kurt Warner. No one in that group sticks out enough to beat Peyton. There were several games during the 9 win streak that he willed his team into victory - I don't think that can be overlooked. The voting wasn't even close - and if you think the MVP voters are in love with Manning, please see exhibit A (the 1997 Heisman Trophy).

The MVP voters are in love with him and no one player can "will" his team to victory. Out of your suggested players in the running I like Kurt Warner, Michael Turner, Chad Pennington, and Adrian Peterson over Manning for individual difference makers. What does Peyton getting shafted for the Heisman eleven years ago have to do with anything? I do think someone has a crush on him, but it isn't me.

I am of the opinion that this year no one really separated themselves from the pack for an entire season. I was on the Warner bandwagon until they finished the season with a 2-4 mark. Also, Warner didn't really have any quality wins, and the NFC West sucked big time this year.

As for Turner, I think he deserves to be in the conversation, but the last two running backs to win the yearly award have scored 28 and 27 TD's during their banner year (LT and Shawn Alexander). Turner also lost some of the spotlight because of how well Matt Ryan did in his rookie season. And remember, the NFL is all about QB's (34 of the 54 winners have been QB's)

Now, as for making the case for Peyton, I think it boils down to a combination of three things, stats, a 9 game winning streak against a schedule tougher than both Warner and Turner faced, and the Sony Bravia commercials.

Look at the Baltimore game. Baltimore lost five games this year. Two by 3 points (20-23 and 10-13 ), another by 4 (9-13). Peyton dropped 31 on them, including 3 TD's with no interceptions. No one scored more on Baltimore than Indy.

Only Tennessee scored more points against Pittsburgh, another great defensive team (Indy dropped 24 on em - again 3 TD's, no interceptions).

Just my two cents. Keep in mind, I'm a Raiders fan so I have nothing better to do than to debate the merits of players who don't play on teams with ignorant owners.

I miss you Captain Dude!
