Gun Control Debate

I think the argument for more or less gun control that is popping up as a result of the Virginia Tech shootings can be answered pretty simply.

If the gun was purchased legally, then more laws might help.

If the gun was not purchased illegally, then more laws probably won't help.

Which was it?

More laws won't help, as only law abiding people will abide by them. Making a law doesn't stop someone from committing an act. Laws are reactionary, made after the fact. They don't stop perpetrators, they only restrict the freedom of upstanding citizens.

IMO, there is no debate. The Constitution gives us the right to keep and bear arms. As far as I'm concerned that settles the debate.
