Maybe it makes sense with the book, All I saw was gratuitous violence with odd attempts at plot twists and then it just stopped at the end. Very weird.
The book helps a little, but the movie follows the books very closely. Basically, it's about how the world changes and leaves every generation behind. How every man has a choice to sit by and let the world go to hell in a handbasket, or to stand up and fight to leave the world a better place for the next generation.

Sorry you didn't like it. NCFOM is one of my all time favorite movies. Just a fantastic movie. The book is excellent as well.
